Amberwood

Maple syrup crafted the old-fashioned way, by family over a wood fire until it is dark, rich, and thick.

The trees are in central Wisconsin and we sell our syrup at our local farmers market in Mahtomedi, MN. We don't currently ship our syrup but if you're in the neighborhood and want some syrup, drop us an email.

Our Story

Each spring we venture into the stillness of the woods to tap maple trees, hang pails, and collect clear, cool sap. The gathered sap is slowly boiled over a wood fire in a traditional pan, a deliberate process to reap the flavors of the local soil, trees, and old-fashioned syrup making traditions.

We began our journey when our neighbors and three-generation syrup makers, the Kalsow family, had a death in their family and were no longer able to supply our favorite maple syrup. Carmen couldn't imagine eating any other syrup so she asked the Kalsow's to show her the ropes, and they generously did, letting her apprentice and passing on their family's maple secrets.

After a couple years of learning, Carmen tapped over 70 trees on her family land and made her first 9 gallons of syrup. She's been going ever since, getting lots of help from her daughters, husband, and father to make the rich, delicious Amberwood syrup we love.

Slow seasons. Old traditions. Pure maple.
